Band From County Hell
A first for BFCH

02 : The Junction, Cambridge – 02MAR08

It's pretty unbelievable really that in all these years of gigging and even from the early days of starting out we have never supported another band. We have always done our own thing, organised our own gigs and had to use our own initiative to get people to see us perform. So this year we are doing something new, Oor Ben has been determined to get us a good support slot and fair play his efforts have paid off and last night we began a new journey supporting one of the legendary punk bands with a 30-year history and a loyal fanbase…
'Stiff Little Fingers'.

Opening with a bang

So we made our way to The Junction in Cambridge and we were early and wanted to be, time to have a look around, get the feel of the venue and meet the techies and crew.

Sound check was a very orderly affair, nothing a problem and we knew without hesitation that the guys were going to give us a good sound. So we retired to the local. About 15 of us walked into a traditional pub round the corner and everyone stopped talking when we walked in…and then I saw a guy with a 'Pogues' t-shirt on and asked if he was coming to the gig. I felt like that was a good sign…he looked like a guy that would enjoy BFCH.

Hammer and I had a chat…
"So Hammer", says I, "Are we going to be booed off, gobbed on or playing to an empty room whilst the SLF fans are at the bar?"
Hammer was cool, "Hey Joolz, Punks don't gob anymore."
"Well that's a relief."

Back at the venue we all gathered in the changing room with James Mulligan being the style advisor of the night, the adrenalin was starting to kick in, the nerves were flying and then 8pm and we were on…
Steve n Mugger...them were the daysBen n Joolz…the boys started with a medley of arse-kicking BFCH music and I waited at the back of the stage ready for action. As I looked through I could see the crowd had moved in and people were coming away from the bar and pushing right into the barriers to see BFCH…my time to go on…the crowd CHEERED, yes cheered, welcome BFCH.

My heart rose, my spirit was lifted…we were ok…SLF fans were giving us a chance and as we sped on into 'Liberty', a song they had never heared because we haven't even recorded it yet!!! they were chanting back at us…'Who gives a ****!'

One SLF gig down, two to go.

Thank you to everyone who came and spoke to us at the merch stall and thank you for buying our music and wares…we expected nothing and you gave us everything but don't worry this band takes nothing for granted, just one gig at a time..........
