01 : The Axe & Cleaver, Boston – 09FEB08

In the run up to Valentine's Day the BFCH and the Axe confirmed their love affair with another great night.

The pub was quiet five minutes before start time but as if by osmosis a very healthy and lively crowd was in place for the opening set. With one eye on forthcoming gigs with Stiff Little Fingers some old favourites were aired: 'Hero', 'But it Did' and 'The Hunger' being the pick along with 'Let It Be'.

'LET IT BE'?! A real Jock treasure this, no warning, straight in. This lead to a memorable exchange in the car park…
Jock:  "Did the Beatles write that? I thought I did!"
Hammer:  "I wish you had, the roadies would be doing this and we'd be out of here in a helicopter by now!"
…priceless stuff.

Anyway, star turns from Carl from the Ship and Rosie on bodhran livened up proceedings and a great night had by all – in their new T-shirts as modelled by the very elegant George Morton.

Great to see some new faces at the venue and while the band head off for the exotic glories of Nottingham and Doncaster (!) they always know there'll be a welcome at the Axe – bring it on!

Once again thanks to the ever-cheerful, helpful and legendary Malc for overseeing a great night and to Mugger and O'Brearley for making the gig through wayward cyclists!
