15 : Leathered in Lincoln – 20JUL07
We met up at The Dambusters at Scampton for a quick social and a good pint before we made our way to The Lincolnshire Showground for this year's Halfway Heroes Bike Rally. We had been expecting a call to tell us the event had been cancelled due to the dire summer weather we are having but a bit of rain had not put off the bikers.
The hanger on the showground was buzzing and the wet and water-logged fields still had some hardy campers staying over. We arrived to see a damn good covers band doing the sort of music you would expect at a bike rally. You know, that auld headbanging and air-guitar music that was getting the leather-clad men and women shaking their ass, shaking their ass…'Oh yeah I see you baby', shouted a big man in Union flag shorts and an army jacket 'and take that fkn Irish flag back in the bus.'
Ummm thinks I, 'Do they really want BFCH to headline tonight…I mean we are hardly heavy rock?'
So we set the stage and get out the tartan, all the Celtic flags, the flames, the whole works, do a quick line check and off we go. A great reception, a good sound out front and THANK YOU very much say the organisers, 'Awesome'……and still the guy in the Union flag shorts was shouting something about the Irish flag but by this time he had picked on oor roadie Trace…now that really isn't a good idea!!
The Bikers looked after us and kept us all in order…well done to them, so many events have been cancelled this year and it was great that people turned up and the night was a success. Hope the rest of the rally goes well.
