12 : Party in the Park, Grantham – 16JUN07
This was an interesting gig…We arrived at the swamp skidding and sliding all over in the bus, so the roadcrew got out and pushed, Dunc and meself kept calm and sat on oor arses, Joolz said, 'Have we got the thunder?' at this point Mad Dawg belched, Ben produced the CD and the skies opened, as if by magic.
It was a good gig but it was cabaret. We got there to the PA still being set up, one stage that had to be divided into three and the celebrities telling the organisers DO YOU KNOW WHO I THINK I AM?, Earl Jackson and the Jailbreakers, these boys did an excellent turn as did the other covers bands, but the guy who loved our Joolz was a quiet unassuming chap called Brian Locking. He was a bass player and he recorded with the Shadows, (song was called Little B) Mad Dawg knew the songs I mean he knows the 60s every single drum loop, skiddle kebang but me? well Brian was one of the finest harmonica players I have ever come across next to my Grandad but he's the first man to ever take the time to show me how it works so a big RESPECT to this fine gentleman a rare gem and that's what I call a celebrity.
We did what we could considering, making the best of a half-done job and lets hope we made some friends. This year has been about building new bridges and opening up to other acts and it's going well. It's never easy for organisers to set up events but credit to Roy he managed to do a grand job and we wish him every success for the future.
